Everyone experiences moments of anxiety at some point in their lives but when it becomes a common occurrence and starts negatively impacting your life it can become a problem.


What is anxiety?

Anxiety is a feeling of unease like fear or worry. Its a very normal feeling and tends to arise in stressful situations - like before a job interview or an important test. However when you start to feel panicked or nervous and you’re not in a stressful situation that’s when anxiety can become a problem.


Symptoms of anxiety

They can vary from person to person but these are some of the most common ones:

  • Feeling worried or on edge a lot

  • Feeling overwhelmed or out of control

  • Having trouble sleeping

  • Having trouble concentrating

  • Low appetite

  • Dizziness

  • Feeling like your heart is beating really fast/ heart palpitation.


Tips to help with anxiety

  • Talk to your GP or a trusted adult

  • Talk to a friend

  • Try meditation

  • Go on a walk

  • Listen to music

  • Write it down

  • Find a distraction


Tips for helping a friend with anxiety

  • Listen to them

  • Don’t pressure them

  • Don’t try to fix it

  • Ask what you can do to help

  • Keep them company

  • Make sure you are ok
