Who We Are

We are a group of professionals that work in healthcare and education and recognise the importance of a collaborative approach to improving health and educational outcomes.

Why

Health Pioneers was founded in 2020 to address the significant health and education inequalities that exist. This became an urgent matter due to COVID-19 amplifying these issues. At the core of the charity is the belief in empowerment, rather than paternalism, and that young people can create innovative ideas and solutions if provided with resources.

Our Mission

Our mission is to empower the young people of East London to shape, and improve, the health of their communities.

How

We will achieve this by developing a range of projects for students, educators and healthcare professionals. By sharing knowledge and curating ideas, we will find pioneering solutions. The impact of these solutions will spread amongst the students’ peers and traverse up through the generations. As our Pioneers grow older, these solutions will then filter down through the generations. Overall, the health and educational outcomes of East London will improve.

DEVINA MARU

FOUNDER

PATHWAYS TO HEALTH PROGRAMME LEAD

Whilst working as a Doctor in London, Devina has seen how wider determinants of health, access to care and health behaviours have resulted in health inequalities amongst our communities. Devina strongly believes we must encourage and foster health promotion and have a proactive approach. Collaborating with schools and empowering young people to live healthier lives by improving their physical, mental and social wellbeing is the start of the journey to foster a healthier culture in generations to come.
